Advice from Tamela, expert in relationships: Make the pie bigger.
I am telling you it is all about PIE. I have letters and e-mail requesting for more funding as they feel they have been underfunded.
I have the Kansas Legislative Post Audit and the Governor's Budget waiting for me to Change funding.
Again, every entity who gets funding from the state of Kansas says they are under funded and wants more money. They want more PIE.
I can re-slice that PIE and still I can ensure you they all want more. By the time I’m done slicing you can not distinguish anything that even looks like a slice of PIE.
I’ve discussed this problem with an expert, a Kansas Woman who bakes cherry pies. An expert in cutting slices too. She asks what do they do with the slice you give them? A very valid set of questions.
If you don’t know I’ll start making my pies bigger she says. But I will need bigger pans, new bigger ovens and more ingredients.
Do the recipients devour the pie before they ever get home?
Is part of it eaten and the other half frozen so the rest can be eaten at a later time? Is it put in the refrigerator uncovered where it won’t take long before it is spoils?
Very practical common sense questions.
The incumbent I’m replacing has been in Topeka 10 years plus his trade is a title auditor. Don’t auditors know how to audit? 10 years have gone by and now it’s up to me in 2009 to do the audit and prepare all of the new budgets that are expiring. That’s Okay. I know how to do audits too.
I spoke with Bob Totten from the Contractor's Association. He has his priorities straight. First, he asked me how my fishing was going. Second, am I ready to raise taxes and make the pie bigger.
More important is that I love Cherry Pie next to fishing.
The more the better but I'm not for raising general taxes. I'm ready for the state of Kansas to produce more revenue rather than a general tax increase.
If you look at the details you will find certain entities who do not have to collect tax on out of state sales. That's a new tax to a specific way of doing business out of the state. This is not a general tax increase. It does, however, make the pie bigger.
As I discussed with Bob, we have to think outside of the box. How about the state being able to raise revenue without taxing and hurting the private sector?
One interesting thing to me that I let Bob know about was the US Department of Energy, a previous client, who operated oil & gas wells in shale. What private company wants to do that? The bottom line is that the DOE was actually generating revenue without taxation.
I have many ideas that will help the state collect more money without a general increase in taxes.
I love my pie to be heated. I expect some heated debates to take place in the legislature.
I also like a scoop of Ice Cream on my pie. It makes it taste even better. Generating additional revenue without a general tax increase is like that scoop of Ice Cream. It makes the pie more palatable.
I am Randy Conyers, your next Representative for the house. McPherson, Lindsborg, Galva and Canton.
PIE is an acronym, not a chart.
Prioritize Income and Expenses, especially when I’m in Topeka.

If I had received more funding the quality of the video would have been much better.
